MINI SECTION

On Sunday 2nd Sept Kilmarnock mini rugby played their first game of the season against Cumnock. It was a home game and the weather was perfect for flowing rugby. A good home support came out to cheer on the minis.

P3/4
Kilmarnock 10 Cumnock 1
Kilmarnock had a storming start to the afternoon with flowing, passing rugby that was too much for their opponents. Try scorers were Robbie Paxton (4), Adam McIver (3), Helen Frater (2) and Paul Neilson (1). There was some brilliant passing and tackling by Scott Wright and Blair Campbell.

Man of the match was Blair and most improved player was Adam.

Kilmarnock 5 Cumnock 6
Kilmarnock eventually ran out of steam in the second game and a much improved Cumnock team using better tactics came out winners in a close game. Try scorers were Robbie Paxton, Helen Frater, Paul Neilson, Scott Wright and Blair Campbell, making his debut.

Thanks to Coaches Una Murphy and assistant coach Jim McIver for helping out.

P5
Kilmarnock 7 Cumnock 12

Head coach Ian McGarry had his P5 team well drilled for what he knew would be a tough encounter against a stuffy Cumnock team. Unfortunately the first game was lost 12/ 7.

There were some excellent displays however and great tries from Euan Strachan, Angus Kerr and Bradley Smith.

There was also excellent play from E. Hughes, C. Gough, M. Carswell , S. Snaddon and A. Farquar.

Kilmarnock 4 Cumnock 3
A great win from Kilmarnock who fought hard for this. Tries were from Angus Kerr and Bradley Smith.

Man of the match for the afternoon was Angus Kerr and a great performance also from Euan Strachan.

P6
Kilmarnock 3 Cumnock 3

Head coaches Ivor Frater and Russell Hughes had warned their P6 team to be on guard against a very tough and hardy Cumnock P6 team.

Captain Gregor Paxton and vice captain David Smith had their forwards and backs well organised but were taken aback by going down 3 tries to 0 at half time.

Waking up to the fact that they were up against formidable opponents they began to play much better in the second half.

Two fabulous tries from Rhys Wallace and one from David Smith brought the game level and formidable tackling from Joe Wishart, Ciaran Frater, Kristina Neilson, Ryan Gordon, Ross Haining, Craig Hamilton and new boys Ross and Adam Linton did very well, keeping up support. Ross in particular did well in the scrum.

Kilmarnock 2 Cumnock 1
Kilmarnock P6 team showed what they were made of in this match. They managed to win a game in which they were outplayed, always a sign of a good team.

In a close contest, Kilmarnock got a penalty 7 metres from the Cumnock line. Gregor Paxton took the crash ball, broke 3 tackles and scored just before half time, giving Kilmarnock a valuable lead.

Rhys Wallace, early in the second half, scored a great solo try in the left hand corner and when Cumnock pulled one back it left for a tense final minute.

High tackling by Gregor and Rhys gave away penalties late on but the Cumnock backs could not break the defensive line of David, Craig, Ross, Ross, Joe, Ryan, Kristina, Adam and Ciaran.

A fine win but food for thought for the coaches.

P7
Unfortunately Cumnock did not bring a P7 team so thanks go to the boys and girls who attended for training. Thanks also to New coach Colin Hyslop and to Graham Kilgour for his valuable input.

SECONDARY S1 AND S2 LEVEL
Garnock S1/2 10 Kilmarnock S1/2 40
New coaches Phil McLean and Rab Neilson were delighted with this away win which was also the S1/2 first game of the season.

Garnock are always worthy opponents and the ground is never an easy venue.

Pre-season training has evidently paid off with the boys showing a high level of fitness.

The try scorers were David Dunseath (4), Frazer Hannah (2), Taylor McHarg (2), Liam Neilson, Andrew Paxton and Conner Turnbull.

Conversions were successfully taken by Elliot McLean (2), Andrew Milloy (4) and Conner Turnbull.

Man of the match was David Dunseath and best try of the afternoon was by Conner Turnbull for a solo 40 yard run.
